No matter which state you are from, AAI can help you make an adoption plan. You’ll be in regular contact with your own caseworker who will walk with you through the entire process. Your caseworker will contact you initially by telephone or e-mail (whichever you prefer), or you may text us! Then, if you would like to talk in person with your caseworker, a meeting can be arranged.

Adoption Laws in Your State

Each state has different adoption laws, so your caseworker will help you develop resources that will make sure your adoption plan meets the particular laws in your own state.

Choosing a Family For Your Baby

You can choose the adoptive parents for your baby by selecting from a number of waiting families that have been approved to adopt.

Meeting the Adoptive Family

This may be more difficult depending on where you live, but meeting the adoptive parents can be arranged. If you wish, you may be able to speak with them on the phone or arrange for them to be present at the hospital during delivery.

We will help you choose the degree of openness of your adoption, which will determine how much contact you will continue to have with the family before and after the baby’s birth. Most birth moms choose to receive pictures and letters from the adoptive family through the agency for up to eighteen years after their child is born.

Support, Even After the Placement

Our agency offers continual support to you before and after you place your baby with the family you select. If you feel comfortable talking or e-mailing with another birth mother one-on-one, we will be happy to put you in touch with someone who has experienced an unplanned pregnancy and made an adoption plan.

Financial Assistance

We may be able to help you with necessary living expenses if the unplanned pregnancy disrupts usual income such as from employment or support from parents. Living expenses may include rent, groceries, and maternity clothes. Your caseworker will need to verify your state laws regarding financial assistance. (Not all birth mothers will qualify for assistance).
